About Pronatal
We would like to provide you with key information about the Pronatal Sanatorium, a private clinic specialised in the field of infertility diagnosis and treatment.
The Sanatorium was established at the end of 1995,. It is located in the reconstructed historic building of “Slunecni lazne” (“The Sun Spa”) and is owned by the physicians. Fifty employees strive to secure maximum satisfaction of their patients and maximum success of treatment. Over one third of our physicians are experts in the field of gynecology-obstetrics, urology, medical genetics, furthermore there are embryologists and genetic laboratories staff – graduates of science faculties.
The newly reconstructed building, which is in close proximity to the Pronatal Sanatorium in Prague 4 - Modřany enabled to set up a complex of genetic laboratories that provide our patients with all necessary examinations, based on the latest scientific knowledge essential for successful treatment of infertility. The new workplace also includes a training centre, which allows us to pass information and knowledge to all levels of education, starting with pre-gradual education (students of the medical faculty) and ending with specialised postgraduate training positions.
The permanent presence of a urologist in the team enables complete diagnosis and medical treatment including operations on epididymis and testicle (surgical sperm retrieval) in couples with severe male factor infertility. Thanks to molecular biology methods, the close cooperation with an embryologist specialised in the field of andrology helps determine the diagnosis with remarkable accuracy as well as raise the awareness of the patient’s prognosis regarding the planned treatment.
Years of practical experience of the team led by Ass.Prof. T. Mardesić PhD. have resulted in achievements comparable to top international centres of assisted reproduction (specific results overview is permanently available to the public on the clinic’s web site). Gynaecologists of the Pronatal Sanatorium are specialised not only in reproductive medicine but also in ultrasound and endoscopic methods. Due to this fact optimal continuity of diagnostic process and medical treatment can be ensured.
The recent discovery of the genetic background of many reproduction failures which led to a new sub-speciality in medical genetics, i.e. reproductive genetics resulted in the opening of a genetic consultation office, and cytogenetic and molecular genetics laboratories. The office specialises in improving pre-conception and pre-implantation genetic diagnostics and prenatal screening methods by applying modern methods in molecular genetics and cytogenetics in close cooperation with assisted reproduction technologies. Incorporation of these new disciplines in medical genetics fulfilled the longstanding endeavour of the management at The Pronatal Sanatorium as far as the concept of complete care for infertile couples is concerned.
The achieved teamwork and results are reflected in many studies in national and international publications, research projects and have received a number of awards.
Pronatal Sanatorium laboratories employ experienced embryologists, whose expertise combined with the state-of-the-art equipment make it possible to perform all techniques known to date (blastocysts culture and transfer, assisted hatching, intracytoplasmic sperm injection-ICSI, sperm, egg and embryo freezing, handling of sperm after MESA and TESE (surgical sperm retrieval from epididymis and testicles) or embryo biopsy and blastomere preparation for pre-implantation genetic screening and diagnosis).
In indicated cases, treatment with donor´s sperm or donated eggs (oocytes) and embryos is available.
With respect to the long-term experience and accomplishments in freezing human gametes and embryos, the Pronatal Sanatorium also provides cryo-conservation of gametes and embryos in those cases when planned (most often oncologic) treatment will be likely to lead to a permanent damage or fertility loss.
The operating theatre is not only equipped for all kinds of assisted reproduction techniques, but also with state-of-the-art endoscopic examination devices (hysteroscopy, trans-vaginal hydrolaparoscopy, laparoscopy).
The team of anaesthetists specialised in outpatient anaesthesia plays a significant role in the operating theatre performance providing all patients with maximum comfort during surgical procedures.
Verification of quality has always been a significant part of our work. As of October 2000, the Pronatal Sanatorium has been a holder of the quality control certificate in compliance with the ISO EN 9001 standard (certification by a Germany’s LGA Intercert specialised – among others - in the certification of medical clinics). Another major success and award in European context is the accreditation of the Pronatal Sanatorium laboratories according to the EN ISO/IEC 17025: 2000, which we acquired in 2001 as the first European IVF laboratory. The above-mentioned achievements are a commitment for the future to maintain on-going improvement and advancement of quality, which will continue to lead not only to optimum results, but also to an organisation of examination and treatment that guarantee the patient’s satisfaction.
